Ju-Jitsu came to this country in the 1970's over its 25+year reign Ju-Jitsu is now recognised as the highest rated form of
recreation with many TV and film personalities taking part in this Deadly but soft natured way of life.Benefits include: overall
general fitness, weight control, self confidence, and is the highest rated form of self defence in the UK and USA. Learning
Ju-Jitsu can be for leisure , self defence and fitness you do not ever have to enter a ring.Looking back over the long history
of Ju jitsu , i see that its origins interpenetrate just about every other far eastern art that you care to mention.
The southern shaolin boxer CHIN GEMPIN taught Kung fu techniques to samurai allready skilled in jujitsu. The techniques of
swordplay (Kenjutsu) Required the warrior to be able close in and disarm the opponent. The ancient histories of sumo and jujitsu
are so closely linked that i would defy anybody to prove which came first?.The famous Ninja warriors incorporated jujitsu
into theyr own combat system. The founders of Aikido.shorinji kempo were both jujitsu masters.
One of the four major Ryu's(schools) of Karate was founded by a Master of jujitsu(wado ryu) and that style remains unique
in its usage of body movement,Avoidance and concurent movement of technique,in fact i would argue the fact that every Japanese
Martial art (Bujutsu) contains elements of jujitsu.
This diversity of background has and does lead to problems today,Because of the modern tendancy to seperate the various martial
arts into discrete discipliners, thus the modern student practices jujitsuand pheraps Kung fu or maybe karate as two seperate
arts , whereas traditionally they were inseperable.
In Freestyle jujitsu we aim to teach the classical approach to jujitsu that is why you will encounter nunchaku , and other
weapon work , striking techniques and all manner of other practice which today does not normally associate with jujitsu practice.
On a finall note Jujitsu was developed for use on the battlefield of ancient japan where heavy armour was worn,But in this
day and age you would look rather silly walking around with a suit of armour so most techniques are Developed for the more
manouverable opponent but at the same time preserving the old techniques of the ancient bushi.
